1. Anthropic

The AI company behind Claude was founded in 2021 by seven former OpenAI researchers, including Daniela Amodei, who is its president. In May 2026 it raised $65 billion at a $965 billion post-money valuation, according to law firm Orrick, which makes it by far the most valuable company with a female co-founder.

2. Canva

Melanie Perkins started Canva with Cliff Obrecht and Cameron Adams to make design simple for everyone. An employee share sale valued it at $42 billion in August 2025, but in August 2026 two of its investors marked their holdings down 17%, to US$34.9 billion, according to Startup Daily.

3. Scale AI

Scale AI labels and prepares data for AI models. Lucy Guo co-founded it in 2016 and left in 2018. Meta's investment in June 2025 valued it at $29 billion, according to TechCrunch.

4. BioNTech

Physician and scientist Özlem Türeci co-founded BioNTech in 2008 with Uğur Şahin and Christoph Huber. The Mainz company developed one of the first COVID-19 vaccines with Pfizer and is listed on Nasdaq, where it was worth about $24 billion in October 2026.

5. Kalshi

Kalshi runs a regulated exchange where people trade on the outcome of events. Co-founded by Luana Lopes Lara and Tarek Mansour in 2018, it raised $1 billion at a $22 billion valuation in May 2026, according to The Block.

6. Fireworks AI

Fireworks AI helps companies run AI models quickly and cheaply. Led by co-founder and CEO Lin Qiao, it raised $1.5 billion at a $17.5 billion valuation in July 2026, with more than $1 billion in annual run-rate revenue.

7. Deel

Deel lets companies hire and pay people in other countries. Shuo Wang co-founded it with Alex Bouaziz in 2019, and it was valued at $17.3 billion in October 2025, according to TechCrunch.

8. Thinking Machines Lab

Former OpenAI chief technology officer Mira Murati founded Thinking Machines Lab in 2025 with a team of former OpenAI researchers. Its first round of about $2 billion valued it at $12 billion, one of the largest seed rounds ever, according to TechCrunch. Reports of talks at higher valuations haven't been confirmed.

9. Talkdesk

Cristina Fonseca co-founded Talkdesk at 24 with Tiago Paiva in 2011. The contact-centre software company reached a $10 billion valuation in 2021, according to TechCrunch, and remains one of Portugal's best-known tech success stories.

10. Replit

Replit lets anyone build software in a browser, increasingly by describing it to AI. Co-founded by Haya Odeh and Amjad Masad, it was valued at $9 billion in March 2026, six months after a $3 billion valuation, according to TechCrunch.

11. Nykaa

Falguni Nayar left a long career in investment banking to found Nykaa in 2012. The beauty retailer listed in India in 2021 and was worth about ₹73,500 crore (about $8.3 billion) in November 2025, according to Business Standard.

12. Physical Intelligence

Stanford professor Chelsea Finn is one of the co-founders of Physical Intelligence, which builds AI that lets robots handle everyday tasks. It was valued at $5.6 billion in November 2025, according to Bloomberg Law.

13. Darktrace

Poppy Gustafsson co-founded the Cambridge cybersecurity company in 2013 and led it as CEO through its London listing. Private equity firm Thoma Bravo bought it for $5.3 billion in October 2024, according to Fortune.

14. Skims

Kim Kardashian co-founded Skims with Jens Grede in 2019. In November 2025 it raised $225 million at a $5 billion valuation, with 2025 sales expected above $1 billion, according to Goldman Sachs Alternatives.

15. Synthesia

University College London professor Lourdes Agapito co-founded Synthesia, which creates AI video presenters for corporate training and communications. It raised $200 million at a $4 billion valuation in January 2026, according to Synthesia.

16. Starling Bank

Anne Boden founded Starling in 2014 after a career in banking and built it into one of the UK's profitable digital banks. She stepped back in 2023, and a 2026 secondary share sale reportedly valued the bank at up to £4 billion.

17. Rare Beauty

Selena Gomez launched Rare Beauty in 2020, with a mental health fund built into the brand. Fortune estimated its value at about $2.7 billion in October 2025; there has been no priced deal.

18. Spanx

Sara Blakely started Spanx in 2000 with $5,000 of savings and took no outside investment for over two decades. Blackstone bought a majority stake in 2021 at a $1.2 billion valuation, according to CNN.

19. Vestiaire Collective

The Paris resale platform for luxury fashion was co-founded in 2009 by Fanny Moizant and Sophie Hersan with partners. Its valuation fell from a €1.4 billion peak in 2021 to about €1.1 billion in 2024, according to FashionUnited.

20. Bumble

Whitney Wolfe Herd founded Bumble in 2014 and took it public in 2021, becoming the youngest woman to take a US company public at the time. By October 2026 its market value had fallen to about $500 million, a reminder that valuations can fall as fast as they rise.

Europe's most valuable female-founded companies

Europe's list is shorter but growing. BioNTech (Germany), Talkdesk (Portugal), Darktrace, Synthesia and Starling Bank (UK) and Vestiaire Collective (France) are among the most valuable. Europe has 59 women-founded unicorns, and women-founded startups took 11.2% of European venture capital in 2026, up from 8.0% in 2016, according to Dealroom.
The gap is widest at the growth stage. All-women teams founded only about 6% of European startups, and mixed-gender teams' share of Series B and later capital fell from 32% in 2016 to 22% in 2025, according to Atomico's State of European Tech 2025. What the most valuable female-founded companies have in common

  • Mixed founding teams. Most companies on the list were founded by women and men together. That reflects the market: all-women teams are only about 6% of European startups.
  • AI is where the value is. About two-thirds of the record $73.6 billion raised by US startups with at least one female founder in 2025 went to AI, and Anthropic and Scale AI took more than 40% of that, according to PitchBook data reported by Fortune.
  • Deep expertise. Several founders are scientists or professors: Özlem Türeci (medicine), Lourdes Agapito (computer vision), Chelsea Finn (robotics) and Fei-Fei Li, whose World Labs raised $1 billion in 2026 at an undisclosed valuation.
  • Consumer brands often start lean. Spanx began with $5,000 of savings, and celebrity-led brands such as Skims and Rare Beauty grew from their founders' audiences. Many consumer brands end in an acquisition rather than an IPO.
  • B2B software scales. Canva, Deel, Talkdesk and Fireworks AI sell to businesses or professionals with subscriptions.

High valuations aren't guaranteed. The Female Founders Fund counted 20 new female-founded unicorns in 2025 and a record $481 billion in total value, but also named "zombie unicorns" such as Kindbody, valued at $1.8 billion in 2023 and later reported at about $400 million, Away and Glossier, according to Fortune. Bumble's market value has fallen to about $500 million, and Canva was marked down 17% in 2026. The lesson isn't to avoid ambition, but to build revenue and profit that hold up when valuations fall.
